WORLD #5 FLIES HIGH

Tyrrell Hatton climbed to a careerhigh 5th in the Official World Golf Ranking following his fourth win in the past 15 months, a four-shot victory Sunday at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

His sixth European Tour title, his second with a G425 LST driver, elevated him to second in European Ryder Cup points. “That’s a huge goal for me to make that team,” the Englishman said. “I'm absolutely delighted to pick up a load of points this week.”

CAPE TOWN - There have been some tough acts to follow in the game over the years.

Replacing Jacques Kallis in the Proteas Test side has proved pretty daunting. Aspirant Australian leg-spinners feel the same way about Shane Warne.

Currently, Proteas captain Quinton de Kock’s shadow must be quite large for anyone wanting to audition behind the stumps and as the national team’s opening batsman.

On the evidence of today’s dazzling display at Senwes Park in the Momentum One-Day Cup Group B opener between the Highveld Lions and the Cape Cobras it seems Ryan Rickelton (109 not out off 100 balls, 12x4, 1x6) may seem up for the task though.

There certainly is plenty about the 24-year-old, who recently received his maiden Proteas call-up for the T20 leg of the Pakistan tour that is akin to a young De Kock. And it’s not just the fact that he is a classy left-hander.

PING - GLOBAL TALENT RISING

PING has been shoring up the international allure of its 2021 player rosters by re-signing prominent stars and emerging talent.

This week renewals were made with Englishman Tyrrell Hatton on the PGA and European tours, Canadian Brooke Henderson on the LPGA, and more.
Cameron Champ, Stewart Cink, Hunter Mahan, Michael Thompson, Brandon Hagy, Andrew Landry and Mackenzie Hughes of Canada all renewed on the PGA Tour.

Two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson signed a lifetime contract in November. Along with Henderson, re-signees on the LPGA Tour include Jennifer Kupcho and the tour’s longest driver, Bianca Pagdanganan from the Philippines.

In Europe, PING extended young South African Wilco Nienaber, who led the European Tour in driving distance last season at 342.31 yards with his G425
LST. The 20-year-old made headlines with an astonishing 439-yard drive at the Joburg Open in November. PING resigned Brandon Stone, Matthias Schwab and Matthieu Pavon from South A

Grant Roelofsen scored 92 as the Dolphins beat the Knights by 53 runs in their One Day Cup match in Potchefstroom.

Roelofsen’s innings was the platform for the Dolphins to set an imposing target of 291. Roelofsen, who topped the run-scorer’s rankings last season, scored his runs of 101 deliveries and hit 10 fours and a six.

He was supported by David Miller, who scored 57, while Ruan de Swart (36) and Robbie Frylinck (37 off 18) made important contributions.

Patrick Kruger was aggressive at the top of the Knights’ order, but he fell for 36, before Andries Gous and Pite van Biljon drove the innings forward.

Their third wicket partnership gave the Knights the ascendency, however, Frylinck removed both within three balls of each other, Gous exiting for 54 off 61, while Van Biljon was trapped lbw for 33.

Farhaan Behardien’s experience took the game deep for the Knights, but the Dolphins’ bowlers were disciplined and skill
