OLYMPIC AMBITIONS

At the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, Louis Oosthuizen was in a sense playing for his country, and his P2 finish improved his chances to represent home
in the official sense at the summer Olympics in Japan.

He is 33rd in the world ranking, which essentially mirrors the Olympic Golf Rankings qualifying list for men and the Rolex Rankings for women.
Men’s qualifying ends June 21st, but using the April 20th ranking here’s how PING pros are positioned: Matthias Schwab would play for Austria; Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Canada; Joaquín Niemann, Chile; Sebastian Muñoz, Colombia; Victor Perez, France; Stephan Jaeger, Germany; Tyrrell Hatton, Great Britain and Northern Ireland; Takumi Kanaya, Japan; Viktor Hovland, Norway; and Adrian Meronk, Poland.

Women’s qualifying ends June 28th, and as it stands Brooke Henderson would represent Canada; Caroline Masson, Germany; Hinako Shibuno, Japan;

Majestic Maas roars historic Nomads SA Boys victory

28 April 2021 – Reigning SA Amateur champion Christiaan Maas eclipsed Masters champion Charl Schwartzel’s tournament record with an eight-shot victory in the Nomads SA Boys U-19 Stroke Play Championship at Waterkloof Golf Club.

Schwartzel’s 72-hole tournament record of 272, set in Benoni in 2001, had stood for almost 20 years until the 17-year-old prodigy rewrote the amateur golf history books with a masterful display to triumph on 23-under-par 265.

He began with successive rounds of eight-under-par 64 to open up a six shot lead, and no one cut into that gap as he stayed at the summit with a third round 67. The Pretoria junior was briefly dismayed that he failed to reach the 30-under target he had set himself after posting a frustrating 70 in the final round, but his mood lifted with the news of the new tournament record.

Markram leads South Africa to easy T20 win over Pakistan

Sourced SABC News

South Africa opener Aiden Markram struck a brisk half-century as the hosts levelled the four-game Twenty20 International series against Pakistan with a six wicket win in the second match at The Wanderers on Monday.

Pakistan elected to bat, but some poor stroke-play saw them restricted to 140 for nine in their 20 overs, well below par on one of the best batting wickets in world cricket.

South Africa never looked troubled in their reply as they reached their target with 36 balls left in a comprehensive win for a

MASTERS MEMORIES

PING pros and PING technology performed impressively at the Masters at Augusta National GC.

PING was the most-played driver brand, where 15 G425 models were utilized, including by Cameron Champ, who was #1 in average driving distance at 323.88 yards with his G425 LST. PING irons were the most popular too, led in the count by the i210 model.

Of 15 players (a PING record), 13 made the cut. Corey Conners shined as the low PING pro, finishing T8, following up his T10 last year. His most memorable stroke: a hole-in-one on the sixth hole Saturday. Tony Finau contended as usual, posting a T10, his third top 10 in the past four Masters.

As top 12 finishers, they earned invites to next year’s Masters, as did 47-year-old Stewart Cink, whose T12 will bring him back for his 20th appearance at the major.
