Grant Roelofsen scored 92 as the Dolphins beat the Knights by 53 runs in their One Day Cup match in Potchefstroom.

Roelofsen’s innings was the platform for the Dolphins to set an imposing target of 291. Roelofsen, who topped the run-scorer’s rankings last season, scored his runs of 101 deliveries and hit 10 fours and a six.

He was supported by David Miller, who scored 57, while Ruan de Swart (36) and Robbie Frylinck (37 off 18) made important contributions.

Patrick Kruger was aggressive at the top of the Knights’ order, but he fell for 36, before Andries Gous and Pite van Biljon drove the innings forward.

Their third wicket partnership gave the Knights the ascendency, however, Frylinck removed both within three balls of each other, Gous exiting for 54 off 61, while Van Biljon was trapped lbw for 33.

Farhaan Behardien’s experience took the game deep for the Knights, but the Dolphins’ bowlers were disciplined and skilled, denying the Knights regular boundaries.

The rate required grew, and so did the threat of a thunderstorm, compounding the pressure on the Knights, who were well behind on the Duckworth-Lewis calculation.

Behardien was run out risking a single that was never on, which effectively ended the contest. The Knights crumbled to 237 all out thereafter
